As February arrives the programming slightly evolves. January was all about building strength and capacity. Whether that was through higher rep pull up work or building out our heavy squats, the focus was on getting strong and building resilience. Workouts were written to tax the heart and lungs but also to build up our muscular endurance. You probably also noticed a slightly bigger focus on single leg work and core conditioning. We were effectively laying the foundations for things to come.
So what does February have in store for us? Well more of the same, but with a little more skill and competition thrown in! The CrossFit open starts here at CrossFit Putney on March 1st so in February expect to see a few more benchmark, named, and previous Open workouts. These workouts are an opportunity for you to push yourself and try to get used to being a little more competitive. Whether you are competing with yourself to improve on a previous best, or with your friends and class mates at the gym, there will be plenty of opportunities.
Throughout February we are training to improve our health, fitness, and strength. This should form the backbone of what we are doing at CrossFit Putney. Once or twice a week however, it’s ok to push a little harder, go beyond your normal weights, try movements you find really challenging, and see if we can improve across the board.
If you are not the competitive type then just think about February as an opportunity to test your fitness, and record some scores on some workouts that will be repeated again in the future.
February 2025 is January 2025 Plus! ;)
